C-Section Recovery Physical Therapy in Maple Grove, MN

Helping Maple Grove and Twin Cities moms heal scar tissue, reconnect their core, and return to activity after a C-section
In-home and in clinic options

You had major surgery. Let's give it the recovery it deserves.

A C-section is abdominal surgery - through skin, fat, fascia, and muscle. But somewhere between the hospital discharge papers and the six-week checkup, most moms are told "you're cleared" without much guidance on what actual recovery looks like.

If your scar still feels numb or tight, if your core feels disconnected from the rest of you, or if you got the green light to exercise but nothing feels quite the same - that's worth paying attention to. And it's very treatable.

Why C-section recovery matters

After a C-section, your body is navigating a lot—common complaints include: scar tissue that's tight or numb, a core that doesn't feel fully "on," and new movement demands (hello, lifting car seats and nursing marathons). Pain and dysfunction are common, but they're not your forever.

We’re here to help you:

  • Restore mobility in scar tissue that's become tight or adhered

  • Reconnect and retrain your core after surgery

  • Address the "C-section shelf" or pooch above the scar

  • Resolve back pain linked to post-surgical core compensation

  • Rebuild toward running, lifting, or your workout of choice - safely

Healing should feel empowering—not rushed or overlooked.

Common questions about C-section recovery

  • Why does my scar still feel numb or tight — even months (or years) later?

Scar tissue doesn't just heal, it adheres. The layers of tissue that were cut — skin, fascia, and muscle — can bond together as they heal, which limits how well they glide against each other. That's often what creates the numbness or tightness some moms notice long after surgery. The good news: this responds well to hands-on scar mobilization — targeted manual therapy that restores mobility between those layers — even if it's been months or years since your surgery.

  • Is it normal to still look or feel different in your midsection months (or years) after a C-section?

Yes - very common. What you're noticing is often a combination of a few things: fascial tissue around the incision that hasn't fully released, a core that feels disconnected and hasn't been retrained to engage correctly, and sometimes diastasis recti that goes along with it. These are physical, mechanical changes — not just a matter of time or willpower — which is exactly why a targeted plan (starting at the scar and rebuilding outward) tends to make more of a difference than core exercises alone.

  • Can a C-section affect back comfort months or years later?

It can - and it's something we see often. When your deep core (including the muscles near the incision) isn't fully coordinating, your back sometimes takes on more of the load. Combine that with the physical demands of carrying a baby, feeding, and lifting a growing toddler, and some moms notice new back discomfort well into postpartum, even if it wasn't there right after birth.

  • When can I run, or work out, again after a C-section?

There is no specific timeline for your return to activity. Returning to running or workout classes after a C-section works best when it's guided by how your deep core and pelvic floor coordinate under load, how freely your scar tissue moves, and a gradual, personalized progression back to activity.
